All documents in Briefcase have granular access controls:
Document-Level Permissions
- View Only: User can view document but cannot download or print
- Download/Print: User can download document and print copies
- Edit: User can modify document (primarily for collaborative documents)
- Delete: User can remove document from Briefcase
- Share: User can grant access to additional people
Role-Based Access Control
- Firm Administrator: Full access to all documents and access control management
- Practice Area Partner: Full access to practice area documents
- Attorney: Access limited to matters and practice areas to which assigned
- Paralegal: Access limited to matters and practice areas to which assigned
- Client: Access limited to client-visible documents in client portal
Confidentiality-Based Access Control
- Work Product: Accessible only to firm attorneys and designated staff (never visible to clients)
- Attorney Confidential: Accessible only to specified attorneys (not to all firm attorneys)
- Client Confidential: Accessible to assigned firm team members and designated client contacts
- Firm Confidential: Accessible to all firm personnel but not to external parties or clients
3.Attorney Work Product Protection
Documents classified as attorney work product are automatically excluded from client visibility:
- Classification: Automatic identification of attorney work product based on document content and creation context
- Client Portal Exclusion: Work product documents never appear in client portal, even if client has general matter access
- Privilege Log Documentation: All work product documents can be compiled into privilege logs for litigation responses
- Inadvertent Disclosure Recovery: If work product is inadvertently disclosed (email sent to client), system provides audit trail and privilege assertion guidance
